Case Study - Medium Pressure Check Valve Redesign
IsoGas Pump was commissioned to solve a challenging problem with a large hydrogen refueling station operator's standard valve panel. An industry standard medium pressure check valve had been deployed throughout the HRS network in all valve panels and was failing with high frequency. IsoGas examined the components and applied our decades of direct check valve design experience to leverage new materials, new flow paths, new valve spring design, and managed to incorporate all design changes into the existing valve housing in order to save several hundred thousand dollars of expense that would have been incurred by producing all new valves.
A constraint of the project was that the solution needed to be implemented rapidly within 4 months of taking on the job. This was due to hydrogen refueling stations being offline frequently and a substantial number of fuel cell vehicle customers being inconvenienced as a result. IsoGas resolved the problem and released manufacturing drawings within 45 days in order to meet the strict deadline for deployment. The customer was happy and this provided an example of how our deep engineering expertise could be applied to solve real industry issues.
